A pioneer in digital currency investing, Barry began buying bitcoin in 2012 and quickly established himself as one of the earliest and most active investors in the industry. In 2015, Barry founded Digital Currency Group and today, DCG sits at the epicenter of the blockchain industry. Barry previously was the founder and CEO of SecondMarket (acquired by NASDAQ in 2015) and earlier in his career worked as an investment banker. Barry graduated with honors from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University. He has received many accolades including being named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and Crain's, and being selected to Fortune's prestigious "40 Under 40" list. Barry has a longstanding passion for investing in great entrepreneurs with big ideas and has a knack for disruption himself.

Mark Murphy

Mark is the Chief Operating Officer of DCG. In that role, he works closely with DCG’s subsidiaries on strategy, execution, marketing, and all management matters. Mark leads DCG’s legal, communications, marketing, brand, and public policy efforts, and supports Barry on day-to-day management of DCG. He also advises DCG portfolio companies on public relations, brand, and marketing efforts. Mark is President of the Board of Directors of Blockchain Association, the industry’s leading trade association. Prior to joining DCG, Mark led communications teams at Bloomberg, First Data, and SecondMarket. Mark worked as a commercial litigation attorney earlier in his career. He is a graduate of Miami University (B.A.) and St. John’s University School of Law (J.D.).

Michael is the Chief Financial Officer of DCG.  In that role he oversees all of the company’s financial operations, M&A activity, and corporate development efforts.  Michael also supports the continued growth of DCG’s operating subsidiaries and expands the company’s relationships within the larger institutional community.  Prior to joining DCG, Michael served as President and CFO of Trading Technologies. Earlier he spent over two decades in investment banking focusing on the financial technology sector as Managing Director at Sandler O’Neill + Partners and Wasserstein Perella. Michael started his career as a venture capital attorney with Kirkland & Ellis. He is a graduate of Cornell University (B.A), Harvard Law School (J.D.) , The University of Chicago Booth School (M.B.A.).

Sitting at the center of DCG's expansive network of portfolio companies, subsidiaries, and shareholders, Casey acts as the primary point of contact for post-investment support and strategic partnerships across our family of businesses. With seven years of experience supporting entrepreneurs full time, she has developed a pattern recognition of the challenges that teams face while scaling and a robust set of resources to support them. A world-class experience designer and seasoned community strategist, Casey cut her teeth working in tech advocacy at NY Tech Alliance and in venture at Female Founders Fund.

Samantha offers strategic advisory and operational support to DCG’s portfolio companies and works with our team, subsidiaries, and portfolio executives to identify and lead cross-network business development initiatives. Having ran the partnerships effort at a London-based health-tech startup prior to joining DCG, Samantha is passionate about helping companies at critical growth stages to scale efficiently. She started her career at Orbis Investments, the global asset manager, conducting fund analysis on the firm’s emerging market equity fund and, eventually, leading global growth initiatives.

Matt joined the DCG team in 2020 as Director of Investments after four years helping to build DCG’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Grayscale Investments. As Director of Investments, Matt focuses on portfolio and risk management for DCG’s digital currency investment strategies as well as new opportunities in public and private equity markets. Having worked at MSCI, Bridgewater Associates, and most recently, Grayscale, Matt is a seasoned asset management professional with a decade of experience in multi-asset class investing. Matt graduated from Lafayette College and is a CFA charterholder.

Jason Yacavone

Jason joined the DCG team in 2021 as Director of Investments after eight years at Moore Capital Management, where he invested across the capital structure. Prior to his time at Moore, Jason spent eight years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch with a focus on leveraged and distressed credit.  As Director of Investments, Jason is tasked with identifying opportunities in the public markets, while also helping to support the team’s digital currency and private equity investments. Jason graduated from College of the Holy Cross (BA) and Harvard Business School (MBA).

Tim joined the DCG team in 2021 as Investment Analyst. Tim focuses on investment opportunities in the venture, liquid token and emerging manager strategies. Tim discovered the Bitcoin whitepaper in 2013 and has been active in the space ever since. Prior to DCG, Tim worked in private equity at SVPGlobal and in technology mergers and acquisitions at Evercore Partners. Tim holds master’s degrees in math from the University of Cambridge and business (MBA) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Bob joined the DCG team in September of 2021 as Director of Investment Operations after spending nearly 15 years in c-suite operations roles at alternative investment firms. As Director of Investment Operations, Bob focuses on building out and managing the operational infrastructure that supports the portfolio management teams for DCG’s digital currency, venture capital, public market, and emerging manager investment strategies. Having worked in financial services and then numerous successful hedge fund ventures, Bob has more than two decades of experience in high-performing operational roles. Bob graduated from Boston University with a BA in Economics and is a CAIA charterholder.

Jenn is a versatile leader of administrative and business operations specializing in facilities and human resources. Jenn ensures the processes and systems that are the backbone of DCG’s business run smoothly and facilitates synergies within DCG’s subsidiaries. She prides herself on bringing a balance of humor, diplomacy, and optimism not only to her team, but also to vendor relationships and partners alike. Prior to DCG, Jenn was the CAO at Neota Logic and Manager of Investor Relations at Epiq Systems. She is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University (BA), Fordham University (MBA), and is a SHRM -Senior Certified Professional. Prior to earning her MBA, you could find Jenn performing professionally in musicals around the country.

Evan Malanga

Evan manages strategic and operational initiatives for DCG at both the parent and subsidiary level with a focus on DCG's new and emerging businesses. Prior to DCG, Evan held leadership roles at Securitize and Consensys. and worked in both M&A and private equity at Evercore and Gotham Partners, respectively. Evan graduated from the University of Connecticut (BA), Columbia Business School (MBA) and is a U.S. Army veteran.

Matt works with DCG subsidiaries on strategic and operational topics, with a focus on businesses in the investment management ecosystem. Prior to joining DCG, Matt was the Head of North America for Citi’s Business Advisory Services team, a strategic consulting practice focused on institutional investor clients in Citi’s Markets division. Matt has also held strategic and front-office leadership roles in the Hedge Fund industry at Citadel, Balyasny Asset Management, and S.A.C. Capital Advisors, the predecessor to Point 72 Asset Management. Earlier in his career, Matt worked for Bain & Company as a Case Team Leader in the Boston office. Matt has an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Mike handles all things legal from an operational, transactional, and strategic perspective for DCG. As Counsel, Mike also works closely with DCG’s subsidiaries and their leadership teams. Prior to joining DCG, Mike was an associate at Cooley LLP and Paul, Weiss, representing emerging growth companies and venture capital funds in a diverse range of critical transactions, from formation through funding and liquidity events. Mike helped start ups grow into household names by providing strategic and practical advice to management teams and investors. Mike is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Law School and lives with his family in New York City.

Associate Counsel

Laura works closely with the investment team and provides legal support across a broad range of transactional, governance, and other business issues. Prior to joining DCG, Laura was an associate at Jones Day representing public and private companies in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions. She also advised companies on matters related to corporate governance and shareholder activism. Laura is a graduate of Fordham Law School (JD) and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business (BS).

Brett is the controller for DCG, where he leads the accounting, tax and financial reporting functions while also providing support to DCG’s subsidiaries in a similar fashion. Brett draws on his almost 20 years of experience in the financial services sector at Macquarie, Barclays and Lehman Brothers to perform his role. He is a graduate of Duke University (BA) and University of Maryland (MBA) and a NYS CPA.

ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Jigar Shah serves as the  Assistant Controller for DCG where he is responsible for daily functions related to financial accounting and reporting. He also supports the finance function for subsidiary companies. Drawing from a career in financial services, most recently at Brookfield Asset Management, previously at SS&C Technologies, as well as Lightfoot Capital Partners and Ernst & Young, LLP, Jigar brings fantastic experience to this role. He holds degrees from New York University and Pace University.

Christopher Saveri

Tax Director

Chris handles all things tax from an operational, compliance, and strategic perspective for DCG. In his role, Chris also supports DCG's subsidiaries on strategic tax initiatives. Prior to joining DCG, Chris worked in EY’s Financial Services Office for 13 years, and served as a tax lead in EY’s Metro NY Fintech initiative. He advised fintech companies at all stages and served as a subject matter expert for digital currency, supporting varied teams on tax technology and complex tax issues. Chris is a graduate of Villanova and is a CPA licensed in New York and New Jersey. In his spare time, you may spot him at his local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dojo.

Jordan joined the DCG team in 2021 as a Manager of Financial Analysis. In this role he oversees all of DCG’s efforts relating to capital, liquidity, forecasting, corporate development and investor relations. Prior to joining DCG, Jordan spent 4 years at Goldman Sachs with a focus on FinTech and Consumer Banking and 2 years prior at J.P. Morgan. Jordan is a graduate of The University of Florida (B.S.) with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Rachel Schwartz

Assistant Controller

Rachel serves as DCG's Assistant Controller, where she is responsible for the daily functions related to financial accounting and reporting, in addition to providing similar support to DCG's subsidiary businesses. Rachel draws from her previous experiences in accounting and finance across a range of companies and industries. Most recently, she worked at Wolfe Research, a premier equity research boutique firm. She started her career at Ernst & Young, as part of the assurance services division, followed by Barclays, where she worked in product control for securitized products. She is a CPA and received a M.S. in Accounting from the University of Virginia and a B.S. in Management from Georgia Tech.

Christiane has a spectrum of responsibilities at DCG. She serves as the connective tissue among leadership and focuses on fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. Before joining DCG in 2013, Christiane held operations and HR roles at AlpInvest Partners, Warburg Pincus, and Cambridge Leadership Associates. She has a restaurant recommendation for any occasion and enjoys the challenge of an impossible task.

Kaitlyn expands the breadth and level of support provided to the C-suite, thus lifting up the entire team. Partnering closely with the COS, she is an integral component of our smooth business operations. Before joining DCG, Kaitlyn held supportive roles in both finance and creative industries. Her special talents include sailboat racing, rescuing dogs, raising a family, and using her insurmountable positivity to crush any task.

Kelly joins DCG as support to our Operations Team. Her responsibilities range from helping our COO leverage his time to best support our subsidiaries, to assisting the Director of Operations with facilities and HR projects. With a background in Change Management, she is passionate about supporting others and has a no job too big or too small attitude. Prior to DCG, Kelly held supportive roles at Bridgewater Associates and most recently Genpact. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with her Bachelors in Psychology, and Masters in Sport Management.

Glenn Hutchins is Chairman of North Island and a Co-Founder of Silver Lake. He is a director of AT&T and of VirtuFinancial; Co-Chairman of the Brookings Institution and CARE; on the Executive Committee of the Boston Celtics and the Obama Foundation; and a board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the New York Presbyterian Hospital, and the Center for American Progress. He is also a member of the Investment Board of Singapore’s Government Investment Corporation. Previously, Mr. Hutchins served President Clinton as a special advisor on economic and health-care policy. With his wife, Debbie, he founded the Hutchins Family Foundation to support healthcare, education and public policy initiatives.

Matt serves on the board of Billtrust, Novus Partners, SigFig, and OpenFin. Prior to BCV, Matt co-founded and ran Village Ventures, where he focused on the same sectors and invested in such companies as BlueTarp, Consumer United, Dwolla, iSend, On Deck Capital, Simple, TxVia and Zipmark. Matt went to Williams College, graduating in 1994 with a degree in Political Economy. Matt was the Captain of the Williams College Rugby Club for his junior and senior year, which as you can imagine consumed nearly all of his spare time. Outside of work, Matt is delighted to spend time with his wife, Jessica, and their three children.

Matt Turck, a Managing Director of FirstMark Capital, invests across a broad range of early-stage enterprise and consumer startups. Prior to FirstMark, he was a Managing Director at Bloomberg Ventures, the investment and incubation arm of Bloomberg LP, which he helped start. Prior, Matt was the co-founder of TripleHop Technologies, an enterprise search software startup that was acquired by Oracle. Matt is passionate about building communities, and organizes two large monthly events, Data Driven NYC and and Hardwired NYC. Matt graduated from Sciences-Po (IEP) Paris and holds a master of laws from Yale Law School. He blogs at mattturck.com.
