Prior to founding Digital Currency Group, Barry founded SecondMarket (sold to NASDAQ in 2015). Before becoming an entrepreneur, Barry was an investment banker at Houlihan Lokey and graduated with honors from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University.  Barry has received many accolades including being named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and Crain's, and being selected to Fortune's prestigious "40 Under 40" list. He has a longstanding passion for investing in great entrepreneurs with big ideas and has a knack for disruption himself.

Travis Scher

VP, INVESTMENTS

Travis leads the DCG’s venture capital and new cryptoasset investing. His responsibilities include sourcing, analyzing, and executing investments, and helping DCG portfolio companies raise additional capital. Prior to joining DCG in 2015, Travis was an M&A attorney at Skadden Arps. He graduated with a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, and a B.B.A in Finance from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.

Mark joined DCG in 2018 to lead the company’s communications, marketing, and public policy efforts. Mark also works closely with DCG subsidiaries Grayscale Investments and Genesis Trading on their public relations, brand, and marketing efforts. Prior to joining DCG, Mark led communications teams at Bloomberg, First Data, and SecondMarket. Mark also worked as a commercial litigation attorney earlier in his career. He is a graduate of Miami University (B.A.) and St. John’s University School of Law (J.D.).

Casey Taylor

DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT

Casey works to connect and foster collaboration between the DCG portfolio companies, subsidiaries, investors, and broader network. She is both the primary point of contact for all post-investment support, as well as for strategic initiatives and partnerships at DCG. Drawing from a career in venture capital and nonprofit tech advocacy, Casey brings valuable experience to the team of using data, research, and community organizing to generate support for emerging technologies.

As the VP of Finance & Controller Simi is responsible for all financial matters for DCG and its subsidiaries. He also serves as part-time DJ and resident AV expert.

Jigar Shah

ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Jigar Shah serves as the  Assistant Controller for DCG where he is responsible for daily functions related to financial accounting and reporting. He also supports the finance function for subsidiary companies. Drawing from a career in financial services, most recently at Brookfield Asset Management, previously at SS&C Technologies, as well as Lightfoot Capital Partners and Ernst & Young, LLP, Jigar brings fantastic experience to this role. He holds degrees from New York University and Pace University.

Larry joined the DCG investments team in 2018. His responsibilities include working with the team to source, analyze, and execute venture and digital currency investments. Prior to joining DCG, Larry worked at Ernst & Young, where he spent 3 years developing the cryptocurrency and blockchain practice. He graduated with a B.S. in Accounting, summa cum laude, from Rutgers Business School.

Whitney Simmons

Whitney serves as the resident Jill-of-all-trades at DCG who uses her years of office management and administrative experience to support and maintain a positive office environment and culture. Prior to joining DCG, Whitney was an executive assistant at SecondMarket where she supported the Private Company team. She is a graduate of Duke University.

Christiane has a spectrum of responsibilities at DCG with a focus on maintaining Barry’s sanity. She spearheads recruiting and corporate culture efforts on the support team but will roll up her sleeves for any task at hand. Before joining DCG in 2013, Christiane held operations and HR roles at AlpInvest Partners, Warburg Pincus, and Cambridge Leadership Associates. She has a restaurant recommendation for any occasion and enjoys the challenge of an impossible task.

Barry Silbert is a serial financial technology entrepreneur, and is the founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group. Starting in 2012, Barry became one of the first and most active investors in the bitcoin space, providing seed funding for many of the companies who have gone on to define the industry. In addition to founding DCG, Barry is also the founder of Grayscale Investments, manager of the Bitcoin Investment Trust. Glenn Hutchins is a co-founder of Silver Lake, the global leader in technology investing. He serves on the board of AT&T, Nasdaq, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Brookings Institution, the Economic Club of New York and the Center for American Progress. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the New York Presbyterian Hospital, an owner and member of the Executive Committee of the Boston Celtics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Previously, he was a special advisor to President Clinton. With his wife, he founded the Hutchins Family Foundation to support healthcare, education and public policy initiatives.

Lawrence is an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Stern School where he teaches Next Generation Retail.

Since becoming a venture capitalist in 1992, Jim has led investments in and served on the boards of more than 40 companies. His current focus is on businesses that leverage network effects or crowd-intelligence, particularly within the financial services, products, and applications markets. He is a co-founder of Abra, and also advises many seed companies, including Admittedly, Culinary Agents, itBit, TheSkimm, and Mirror. Jim has been recognized on the Forbes Midas List of Top 100 VC's. Before that, he was with JP Morgan, initially developing global risk-management systems, and later as an investment banker. Jim earned an MBA from Harvard in 1992.

Matt serves on the board of Billtrust, Novus Partners, SigFig, and OpenFin. Prior to BCV, Matt co-founded and ran Village Ventures, where he focused on the same sectors and invested in such companies as BlueTarp, Consumer United, Dwolla, iSend, On Deck Capital, Simple, TxVia and Zipmark. Matt went to Williams College, graduating in 1994 with a degree in Political Economy. Matt was the Captain of the Williams College Rugby Club for his junior and senior year, which as you can imagine consumed nearly all of his spare time. Outside of work, Matt is delighted to spend time with his wife, Jessica, and their three children.

Matt Turck, a Managing Director of FirstMark Capital, invests across a broad range of early-stage enterprise and consumer startups. Prior to FirstMark, he was a Managing Director at Bloomberg Ventures, the investment and incubation arm of Bloomberg LP, which he helped start. Prior, Matt was the co-founder of TripleHop Technologies, an enterprise search software startup that was acquired by Oracle. Matt is passionate about building communities, and organizes two large monthly events, Data Driven NYC and and Hardwired NYC. Matt graduated from Sciences-Po (IEP) Paris and holds a master of laws from Yale Law School. He blogs at mattturck.com.
